As part of the Poppy Café, the Singing Café is held every fourth Tuesday of the month, for anyone who would like to attend.
Come and join us!
At the monthly sessions, which last around 45 minutes, we sing together for enjoyment and fun.
We always begin with a gentle ‘warm up’ to get ready, and use specially compiled song books with a variety of carefully chosen and well known songs.
There is a collection of percussion instruments available to play and a pianist to accompany us.
The social and physical benefits of singing together are well recognised. Importantly, for those living with dementia, singing can stimulate memories of people and places, and even change one’s mood and increase confidence.
Singing is a relaxing activity and can facilitate both speech and ease of movement. It helps us to engage with others and, above all, gives us a good time and some fun!
Local visiting choirs
Angela Dugdale has visited with some members of her choir who sang a selection of songs entitled ‘Music is Magic’. We are delighted to welcome them all back for carol singing in December.
Over the years pupils of all ages from Gresham’s School have entertained us at the Poppy Café, after which they have been happy to chat and participate in activities. We hope to welcome the children and their teachers again soon.
Other musical performers have included:
- Meg Starling and Friends
- Stephen Miles, tenor, accompanied on the piano by Kathleen Wyatt
- Frs Peter and Stephen
- ‘Samphires’ close harmony group of ladies
