Like you, we ‘care’ for those living with dementia…

Our services

Regrettably, from 5th January 2021, our services are once again suspended. We hope to be able to resume them as soon as possible, as clearly the present situation is very difficult and challenging for both our clients and their carers. This will be a step by step process to ensure that safety continues to be the underlying focus at all times.

So what was the situation in 2020?

Poppy Café reopened on Tuesday 28 July having been closed since March 2020’s National lockdown.

Careful thought was put into opening the Café safely and, although arrangements were slightly different, everyone attending appreciated the opportunity to meet up again. Individual activities were organised but most people enjoyed the chance to chat and catch up on news, whilst carers were given the option of leaving their loved ones at the Café and having some respite time to themselves in town.

Poppy Home Visiting resumed on 31st August

Our Home Visiting service provides additional support for people with dementia, their carers and families, in their own home environment. Throughout lockdown the volunteers provided an alternative form of support by way of telephone conversations, until it was possible to resume home visits. This last provision is to continue.

Poppy PM recommenced on Thursday 8th October

Having opened as a new service in March, every second and fourth Thursday of the month, from 2.00 pm – 3.30 pm, Poppy PM offers a similar service to the Poppy Café for those living with dementia and aims to provide an opportunity for carers to leave and have time to themselves. The café was reopened a few times from 8th October until 10th December.
